The Government Raise

Recently, the Federal Government raised the minimum wage by $.70 an hour, ensuring a nice living wage of $5.85 per hour. No, really…..that’s enough cash, right?
So we all know that it is not enough (nowhere near enough!), and we can rest easy knowing that most Americans make more than the minimum wage. So, what in the world is the big deal about raising the minimum wage?
How about that as it continues to increase, it will put a hurt on small business? Honestly, how much should someone get paid for asking medium or large, with whipped cream or would you like fries with that? How much should someone get paid for manual labor, unskilled labor? It is amazing to realize that those in favor of minimum wage increases never realize that when you start paying too much for positions that don’t deserve it, you end up costing the economy more jobs. Employees end up doing double duty, so employers – and rightfully so! – don’t have to pay a wage to those who should not earn that wage.
The real issue is in the so-called debate between the Democrat candidates that took place on CNN, with questions coming from YouTube. One of the questions, asked by two women from Pennsylvania, presented the premise of the minimum wage increase and asked each of the candidates if they would take the job of President for minimum wage? They all answered yes. (Sen. Biden of Delaware palyed both sides of the coin, but we are used to that by now.)
They all lied, and wasted an opportunity to teach an important lesson to America.
Not one person on that stage has ever or would ever work for minimum wage. The real question is, why would you? If you are thrilled that the government gave you a raise of $.70 per hour, you are a fool. You are, without question, the person who does not deserve a raise. A government hand out should not be looked upon with favor and delight. You should view your minimum wage job not as a career, but as a stepping stone in the right direction. You step from that job up to a better job. Or, you take the experience to start your own job, your own company, your own business.
Only the lowest kind of mentality looks to the government to solve their personal issues. Only the lowest say hooray for a minimum wage increase that proves the previous statement true. Liberals will tell you how lucky you are that they got you this increase. They are trying to buy you, your vote and your soul for $.70 an hour. Only the lowest kind of mentality would consider that a good thing.
Enjoy the video.

Thank you for this. I have been following a lot of blogs lately that discuss living wage. It is amazing that many people can work full-time jobs at minimum wage and still live below the poverty line.
I think that we can promote living wages in our daily lives by supporting companies that promote living wages for low-wage workers, b/c even with a pay raise minimum wage is still peanuts.
I recently discovered this service, LaborFair.com, that helps support household service providers(the group that the supreme court decided is not entitled to the basic benefits and overtime wages that others are). This pool of low-wage workers is predominently women. Laborfair.com, a useful online resource for promoting fair and living wages for household workers. Laborfair.com is a bay area website that is a combination of facebook and craigslist.
The Laborfair.com workers are empowered to quote wages they deem fair for the work they provide and the consumers pay them directly. It is these workers that need our support most.
pass it on.
